I am passionate about policy relevant research and projects that contribute to improving human and beyond-human wellbeing. On the CONDJUST project, I will explore how epistemic communities learn, or fail to learn from each other, and how stronger inter-disciplinarity might be encouraged in conservation prioritisation. My research in South Africa will have a particular focus on how these debates and prioritisation work intersect with land reform, in the context of pastoralism and rangeland ecology and management.
I was born and raised in South Africa and completed my PhD at the Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS) at the University of the Western Cape. I also have a MSc in Social Policy and Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science. I have completed post-doctoral research positions at PLAAS, at the Institute for Global Sustainable Development at the University of Sheffield, and a Science by Women Senior Fellowship with Fundación Mujeres Por África hosted at ICTA-UAB. I also have considerable experience working for research institutes, evaluation consultancies, and in the civil society sector, where I have been able to pursue my passion for participatory action research.
