Valeria Zapata Giraldo

PhD Researcher

Valeria is a doctoral researcher at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA) at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Her work draws on theories of social, environmental, epistemic, and data justice to explore the challenges of achieving more equitable area-based conservation in the context of large-scale global conservation targets and data-referenced decisions.

Her PhD research focuses on the integration of Other Effective Conservation Measures (OECMs) into conservation policy and practice in Colombia.

She holds an MSc in Global Development, Environment, and Climate Change from the University of Manchester (United Kingdom), an MA in Transmedia Communication and a BA in Journalism and Communications from EAFIT University (Colombia).
