We feel extremely happy because Laia and Lina defended their PhD dissertations with great success on the 3rd and 11th of October, respectively.

Lina's PhD dissertation was entitled "Payments for Ecosystem Services in Colombia: discourses, design and motivation crowding", and Laia's PhD dissertation was entitled "Co-managing small-scale fisheries: a global overview and a case study in Chiapas, Mexico". These works have already resulted in several articles that can be found in the publications section of this website.

Lina's PhD Assessment Committee included Prof. Unai Pascual (Basque Center for Climate Change Research), Dr. Marcela Ibáñez (University of Gottenburg), and Dr. Gert van Hecken (University of Antwerp). Laia's Committee included Prof. Sergio Rossi (Università del Salento), Dr. Raquel Modino (Universidad de la Laguna) and Dr. Federica Ravera (Universitat de Vic).

The Committees granted an ‘Excellent” to both theses, which speaks greatly about Lina and Laia's academic capacity and the hard work they put into their dissertations over the last few years. Both PhD defenses were rich and constructive, and very enjoyable (probably more for me and those others who attended than for them, of course!).

At Laseg, we feel sad because Lina and Laia are ending this wonderful period of their early-stage academic lives, and they will both start a new journey ‘away’ from Laseg and ICTA-UAB.

Congratulations to both of them, and thanks once again to them for every second they put into Laseg’s activities these last four years.

Dr. Moros and Dr. d’Armengol-Catà: you will be greatly missed!
